Overview
Active - Green - Connected describes our city’s identity where quality of life is important and allows for an active life in an impressive and sustainable environment that is well networked and linked to the world.
Amenities
Our community has an extensive and diverse list of amenities (see left side bar for highlights). In addition to winning the Communities in Bloom Competition as a National Champion in 2007 we are a city that prides itself in our ability to create and maintain a beautiful, colourful and vibrant city for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Nature
The forests, rivers, streams and many lakes around Quesnel are filled with an array of beautiful and interesting plants and animals. If you are quiet enough and it is the right time of day you might catch a glimpse of one or more of the beautiful animals found in the Central Interior of British Columbia. Different species of local or migrating birds can be seen in the area all year round; such as the American White Pelican, the eagle, the osprey or maybe a swan. Fish, such as rainbow trout, kokanee or sockeye salmon can be seen in most of the creeks, rivers or lakes in the area. In the thick vast forest surrounding our city you can find fascinating wildlife such as fox, beaver, wolf, bear (both black and grizzly)moose, elk, woodland caribou, cougar and of course deer.
Seasons
Quesnel has four distinct and beautiful seasons - and with an average of 2025 sunshine hours per year, Quesnel is among BC’s bright and sunny spots for any season. With average maximum daily temperatures of 24°C (75°F) in July and average minimum daily temperatures of -10.7°C (13°F) in December, we enjoy pleasantly mild summers and moderately cold winters.
Housing
Whether you prefer living in urban neighbourhoods or on acreage farms or estates, the Quesnel area offers you a wealth of affordable choices. For example, the BC Northern Real Estate Board reports that the average price for a single-family home in Quesnel has been just under $167,000 for 2007.

“It is very exciting to be here to see the completion of the Province’s first Spirit Square, the first of many to be finished and opened this year, celebrating our province 150th anniversary, and reinforcing the special spirit that defines our cities, towns and villages. This square is a place for Quesnel to showcase its community strengths and achievements, and a centre for people to meet, to celebrate, and to connect with one another.” Premier Gordon Campbell
