About the QCEDC

Our mission

The Quesnel Community and Economic Development Corporation works to facilitate economic, social and environmental wealth for all residents.

Structure

QCEDC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Quesnel and has been in operation since 2000.

A nine to eleven-person board of directors has participation from a cross section of the business community. Representation includes industry, retail commercial and small business. Board members include:

  2. Brian Black, P.Eng.  Retired; former Mill Manager, Quesnel River Pulp
  3. Tony Bensted, RPF, MBA, P.Eng.,  Businessman (Chairman)
  4. Darlene Osborne  Publisher, Quesnel Cariboo Observer, Past President Quesnel & District Chamber of Commerce
  5. Carol Pitkin  Co-owner, The Outlaw, Carver's Clothing Company, Super Suds Laundromat, Quesnel Downtown Association Revitalization Chair
  6. Gary Plamondon  Owner, Quesnel Vending (Secretary-Treasurer)
  7. Mary Sjostrom  Mayor, City of Quesnel
  8. Bruce Broughton  Co-owner, Willis Harper
  9. Jim Gorsline, P.Eng.  Retired; former Quesnel Plywood

Financing

Operating budget funding come from the City of Quesnel and Cariboo Regional District. The City of Quesnel contributes 90% and the Cariboo Regional District contributes 10%. The funding agreement is made on an annual basis with the City of Quesnel. The Northern Development Initiative Trust has developed a new program providing economic development office with $30,000 in funding support for incremental activities in economic development and an additional $5,000 in funding to support regional/provincial partnership funding like memberships.

Project financing comes from numerous sources. Our funding partners have included: City of Quesnel, Northern Development Initiative Trust, Service Canada, Tree Canada, Western Economic Diversification

QCEDC Services

QCEDC places priority on client services. We are engaged in discussions with entrepreneurs and individuals relocating to Quesnel to start a new business or purchase a business on a daily basis. Quesnel is a business friendly community and QCEDC is pleased to assist business in being successful. Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9-5 and we invite you to contact our staff and discuss your plans for business in Quesnel.
