The City of Quesnel is an active and vibrant community with a mission statement that reflects these values.
“The City of Quesnel will provide its residents with outstanding quality of life in a vibrant, prosperous, diversified community, achieved through a process of public consultation and trust”
Quesnel is divided geographically into four primary business and residential areas; South, West, North and Downtown. There are commercial zones located on either side of the Fraser River and along Highway 97 South and North of the city.
To support an active and environmental quality of life the city focuses on actions that improve the quality for all in the community. They work to identify both the short-term and long-range impacts of planning decisions and the cumulative effects of decisions on the physical, economic and social environment. Supporting the business community is done through decisions that provide a sense of certainty and predictability for planning purposes and protect and plan for future generations. The Cariboo region consists of 12 electoral areas (A through L) and four incorporated member municipalities – 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Quesnel and Wells.
The CRD Mission statement reflects the work it does with a variety of community partners.
“Working in partnership with communities large and small, to make the Cariboo Chilcotin a socially, economically and environmentally desirable region to live, work and play.”
The Cariboo Regional District has a population of approximately 63,000 residents of which approximately 25,000 are within the Quesnel region. For those areas outside of incorporated municipalities they provide a level of government services that includes fire protection, emergency planning, environmental services and planning as well as library and recreation services. The region covers an area of 80,262 square kilometres. For more detailed information on the CRD, their website can be accessed here.
